Determination
Artist Statement In my later years art has been a soothing and calming force, I have always turned to art to center myself away from the distractions of life. I believe art has that type of effect on everyone. It is a transformative practice. We are all creative beings and we need to engage in music, poetry, art, dance, any form of creativity to feel truly alive. I believe we need art in every day as part of a requirement for health and well being. My own art tends to explore nature, the garden, and concepts in art like abstraction and non-representation. I enjoy the way paint flows and how it looks cut up and collaged with other paintings and drawings. For representational art, drawing has always been basic to me. I find that spending time observing details in nature and in any object is a way of getting clear on many things. It brings me to center and allows me to be focused in my thoughts and actions when I take time to meditate and pray, yes it feels like prayer to sit and contemplate simple things like the color and shape of a shadow. It opens up a portal to a new way of seeing and being.
